Good to know
Margin and markup
Margin is profit as a % of the selling price. Markup is profit as a % of cost. A 40% margin is a 67% markup.
Discounts eat profit fast
A 15% discount on a 40% margin product cuts profit per unit by more than a third, so you must sell much more to stand still.
Give something else
Free delivery, extra service or longer warranty often cost less than a price cut and protect your price.
Set limits
Agree the most discount each salesperson can give, and who approves more.
Questions people ask
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
Yes, it is free and you do not need to sign up. Open it and use it as often as you like.
Is my data safe?
The numbers are worked out in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to USR unless you choose to email yourself the result.
How accurate is the result?
It is an estimate based on the rules shown on this page as of November 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check with your CA before you act.
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin divides profit by the selling price; markup divides it by cost.
Why do I need so many more sales?
Because the discount comes straight out of profit, not out of the price as a whole.
